Almost a decade ago, I met this beautiful lady for the first time in our homestay family meeting. Right after I introduced my self, she said in excitement "You're mine, you're gonna stay with me!"
She then took me and my roomate Ega to her beautiful house, where everything was clean, neat and looking as pretty as they could be. She lived alone, and did everything pretty much by herself, yet everything seemed to be all under control.
The more I knew her the more I adored her day by day. She was compassionate, caring, and generous... she taught me a lot of stuff and had the best sense of humor. I could never forget how she (literally) singlehandedly caught a bug with her bare hand and a ply of tissue, while Ega and I freaked out big time. Oh yes, she's a badass too. I knew I want to grow up like her.
One day we were about to go out and I asked her if my hijab looked fine. She answered, "oh yes honey, you look so pretty like Mother Mary".
I genuinely couldn't have asked for a better hostfamily. She's that perfect and I am so thankful to ever have had a chance to live with and learn a lot of thing from her.
I'm really devastated to hear that she passed away, but I hope she's in a better place now where there is no pain nor sorrow.
For Daniel, Heather and everyone in the family, I am so sorry for your loss. My thought and prayer go to you. I hope you all gain strength and stay healthy
Rest in peace Mary Elaine Weisner Riley
